Jordan has moved to close the case surrounding a fatal church attack by arresting three suspects in the Karak governorate. The arrests followed a violent confrontation with law enforcement at dawn on Monday.

The Public Security Directorate confirmed that all three men were taken into custody after a shootout. Each suspect sustained injuries during the engagement, while no members of the security forces were hurt. The directorate stated that the suspects identified themselves as the individuals responsible for the attack.

The initial incident occurred on Friday in the village of Hammoud. At the time, a funeral service was underway at a Greek Orthodox church. Three men participated in the shooting. Karak is located south of the capital, Amman, and hosts a small Christian minority population.

Interior Minister Mazen Al-Faraya addressed the capture by phone to the state broadcaster, Al-Mamlaka. He stated that security services had fulfilled their duties by capturing those who carried out the terrorist act. Al-Faraya noted that the suspects put up fierce resistance but were subdued after sustaining severe injuries. He added that the three men were identified early in the investigation.

King Abdullah II directed authorities to respond with an iron fist against those he described as outlaws of Islam. The monarch urged a firm stance against anyone seeking to undermine the unity of the Jordanian people. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, and officials have not publicly linked the suspects to any specific armed organization.

The Public Security Directorate issued a statement declaring that terrorism has no place among them. The agency noted that the men had met their just fate. Reuters reported that the directorate did not name the suspects or point to links with Islamist militant groups.
